In
estuaries, snapper are very similar to bream and often caught whilst
fishing for bream.
The
best offshore snapper fishing will usually be from a boat that is
anchored around locations like reefs or gravel beds. Berley will
bring the snapper close to the boat. With this kind of fishing it
sometimes pays to have some baits right on the bottom and some "floating"
baits - little or no sinker so the bait is drifting in the current.
Snapper, especially big ones, will come up the berley trail and
take the drifting baits quite regularly.
Big
snapper can be very strong fighters so line in the eight to 15 kilo
breaking strain is recommended.
