When
tailor are really feeding actively, they can be seen splashing on
the surface with birds diving in to grabs bits left over. In this
situation if you can cast a lure in there, you will almost certainly
get a strike. Tailor can swim very fast too, so you should wind
your lure in quite quickly. Heavy metal lures, known as slugs, are
best for casting and diving minnows are good for trolling. The best
baits are whole garfish or pilchards rigged on ganged hooks.
When
rock fishing, baits are either set under a float and left to drift
or cast out and retrieved very slowly like a lure. From the beach,
use a sinker heavy enough to allow you to cast as far as you need
to.
